Year-over-year Canadian towable sales rose 9.1% in December while showing a 5.6% decline for the full year, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc.

Results by segment showed:

• Sales in the travel trailer sector gained 6.5% in December while dropping 3.7% for the 12 months.

• Canadian fifth-wheel sales grew 17.1% for the month but were down 8.2% for 2014.

• Folding camping trailer registrations declined 37.5% in December and 19.2% year-to-date.

• Canadian sales of recreational park trailers were up 33.3% for the month but declined 27.8% in 2014.

Thor Industries Inc. was the overall Canadian towables sales leader for 2014 with a 38.2% market share, followed by Forest River Inc. (32.1%) and Jayco Inc. (16.4%).

Thor was the leader in travel trailer sales for the 12 months, holding a 37.4% market share, while Forest River was No. 2 (30.3%), followed by Jayco (17.5%).

Thor was the leader in the Canadian fifth-wheel sector for the full year, capturing a 47.8% market share, with Forest River at No. 2 posting a 32.5% share, followed by Jayco at 10.5%.

In the park model sector, Thor captured a 45% market share for the 12 months while Forest River garnered a 24.3% share, followed Woodland Park (10.7%) and General Coach (10.4%). Forest River led Canadian folding camping trailer sales with a 63.2% market share while Jayco posted a 29.4% share.
