Editor’s Note: The data for August Canadian towable sales in the New Brunswick province was incomplete and are not included in totals. To offer a fair comparison the New Brunswick totals for 2013 have also been removed.

Year-over-year Canadian towable retail sales declined 15.8% in August and 6.9% for the first eight months, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc.

Results by segment showed:

• Sales in the travel trailer sector fell 15% in August and 4.7% year-to-date.

• Canadian fifth-wheel sales declined 15.9% for the month and 10.6% through August.

• Folding camping trailer registrations declined 24.4% in August and 19.2% for the eight months.

• Canadian sales of recreational park trailers dropped 41.7% on low volume for the month and 35.6% year-to-date.

Thor Industries Inc. was the overall Canadian towables sales leader through August with a 38.1% market share, followed by Forest River Inc. (32.1%) and Jayco Inc. (16.6%).

Thor was also the leader in travel trailer sales for the eight months, holding a 37.6% market share, while Forest River was No. 2 (30%), followed by Jayco (17.6%).

Thor was the leader in the Canadian fifth-wheel sector year-to-date, capturing a 47.8% market share, with Forest River at No. 2 posting a 33.1% share, followed by Jayco at 10.5%. In the park model sector, Thor held a 46.7% market share while Forest River garnered a 22.2% share followed by General Coach (11.1%).

Forest River led Canadian folding camping trailer sales for the eight months with a 63.4% market share while Jayco posted a 29.2% share.
