Year-over-year Canadian towable retail sales declined 9.8% in July and 8.5% for the first seven months, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc.

Results by segment showed:

• Sales in the travel trailer sector fell 7% in July and 6.2% year-to-date.

• Canadian fifth-wheel sales declined 14.7% for the month and 12.6% through July.

• Folding camping trailer registrations declined 14.4% in July and 20.7% for the seven months.

• Canadian sales of recreational park trailers dropped 66.7% on low volume for the month and 40% year-to-date.

Thor Industries Inc. was the overall Canadian towables sales leader through July with a 38.3% market share, followed by Forest River Inc. (32%) and Jayco Inc. (16.7%).

Thor was also the leader in travel trailer sales for the seven months, holding a 38% market share, while Forest River was No. 2 (30%), followed by Jayco (17.7%).

Thor was the leader in the Canadian fifth-wheel sector year-to-date, capturing a 47.7% market share, with Forest River at No. 2 posting a 33% share, followed by Jayco at 10.6%. In the park model sector, Thor held a 47.2% market share while Forest River garnered an 23.9% share followed by General Coach (9.4%).

Forest River led Canadian folding camping trailer sales for the seven months with a 63% market share while Jayco posted a 29.6% share.
