Year-over-year Canadian towable sales grew 7.8% in March and 4.5% for the first quarter, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI).

Results by segment showed:

• Sales in the travel trailer sector rose 6.4% in March and 3.2% year-to-date.

• Canadian fifth-wheel sales climbed 15.3% for the month and 9.9% through March.

• Folding camping trailer registrations were down 3% in March and 2% year-to-date.

• Canadian recreational park trailers showed a total of 10 units sold for the month.

Thor Industries Inc. was the overall Canadian towable sales leader through March with a 38.8% market share, followed by Forest River Inc. (30.5%) and Jayco Inc. (18.4%).

Thor was the leader in travel trailer sales for the three months, holding a 38.3% market share, while Forest River was No. 2 (29.9%), followed by Jayco (19.5%). Thor was also the leader in the Canadian fifth-wheel sector, capturing a 46.5% market share, with Forest River at No. 2 posting a 28.2% share, followed by Jayco (12.4%) and Grand Design RV Co. (8.6%).

Forest River led year-to-date Canadian folding camping trailer sales with a 58.7% market share while Jayco posted a 32% share. Thor led the park model sector for the quarter with seven units sold.
