Year-over-year towable retail registrations grew 7% in June – boosted by continued growth in the high volume travel trailer sector – while posting a 12% gain for the first six months,
According to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI), results by category showed:
- Sales for the travel trailer segment increased 10.7% for the month and 15.2% year-to-date.
- Fifth-wheel registrations were flat, down 1.1% in June, while seeing a 4.5% gain for the first six months.
- Folding camping trailer sales dropped 16.4% for the month and 5.6% year-to-date.
- Park model RV sales fell 15.8% in June but were up 9.2% for the first six months.
Forest River Inc. was the towable sales leader through June with 37.8% share of the market, ahead of Thor Industries Inc. owning a 34.2% share. Jayco Inc., which was acquired by Thor on July 1, garnered a 14% share.
By segment, Forest River was No. 1 in travel trailers for the six months with a 39.3% market share, followed by Thor (32.9%) and Jayco (14.9%). Thor led fifth-wheel sales with a 44% market share followed by Forest River (29.7%), Jayco (11.3%) and Grand Design RV Co. (8.7%).
In folding camping trailers, Forest River led the category for the six months with a 66.4% market share, followed by Jayco (13.2%) and Columbia Northwest/Aliner Inc. (11.3%). Kropf Manufacturing Co. Inc. led the park model segment with a 14.8% market share, followed by Fleetwood Homes Inc.(13.6%) and Champion Home Builders (11.2%).
