Year-over-year motorhome registrations dipped 2.6% in March while sales rose 7.9% for the first quarter, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc.

Thor Industries Inc. ranked as the motorhome sales leader year-to-date with a 23.1% market share followed by Winnebago Industries Inc. (18.5%) and Tiffin Motorhomes Inc. (11.5%).

In the Class A category, registrations in March edged up 2.4% compared with 2011 and year-to-date sales rose 1.2%. Winnebago held the No. 1 position for the three months posting a 21.2% market share, edging out Tiffin with a 20.8% share. Thor was No. 3, capturing a 16.4% market share.

Class C sales dropped 8.1% in March, but were up 17.3% for the three months. Thor held a commanding lead through March with a 31.4% market share, followed by Coachmen (18.2%) Winnebago (15.1%).

Rental registrations, which were primarily Class C sales, fell 37% in March.
