Year-over-year towable sales continued to roll in 2017, posting an 11.2% gain for the first seven months, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI).
Results by category showed:
- Sales for the travel trailer segment climbed 12.5% year-to-date.
- Fifth-wheel registrations were up 8.7% for the seven months.
- Folding camping trailer sales edged down 1.9% through July.
- Park model RV sales fell 9.3% for the seven months.
Thor Industries Inc. was the towable sales leader through July with 48.8% share of the market, ahead of Forest River Inc. owning a 36.8% share and Grand Design RV Co. (4.2%).
By segment, Thor was No. 1 in travel trailers for the seven months with a 49.1% market share, followed by Forest River with a 38% share. Thor led fifth-wheel sales with a 53.4% market share, followed by Forest River (28.9%) and Grand Design RV Co. (10.9%).
In folding camping trailer sales, Forest River led the category through July with a 70.3% market share, followed by Thor (11.8%) and Columbia Northwest/Aliner Inc. (11.4%). Cavco Industries Inc. led the park model segment with a 23% market share, ahead of Kropf Manufacturing Co. Inc. (20.1%) Skyline Corp. (12.9%) and Champion Home Builders (12.5%).
