Year-over-year towable retail registrations dipped 7.6% for the first three months of 2019 as all segments reported lower sales during the period.
According to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI), results by category showed:
• Sales for the travel trailer segment fell 6.8% for the three months.
• Fifth-wheel registrations declined 9.8% through March.
• Folding camping trailer sales fell 14.7% for the three months.
• Park model RV sales dipped 3% through March.
Thor Industries Inc. was the towable sales leader for the three months with a 45.2% share of the market, ahead of Forest River Inc. owning a 36.4% share and Grand Design RV Co. (7.1%).
By segment, Thor was No. 1 in travel trailers through March with a 44.4% market share, followed by Forest River (39.1%). Thor led fifth-wheel sales with a 51.4% market share, followed by Forest River (26.1%) and Grand Design (15.3%).
In folding camping trailers, Forest River led the category for the first three months with a 66.8% market share while Columbia Northwest/Aliner Inc. garnered 11.7% and Thor captured an 8.2% share. Skyline Champion led the park model segment with a 32.9% market share, followed by Cavco Industries (16.3%) and Kropf Industries Inc. (15.6%).
