Year-over-year towable retail registrations slid 6.5% for the first eight months of 2019. According to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI), results by category showed:
• Sales for the travel trailer segment dipped 6% through August.
• Fifth-wheel registrations declined 8.1% for the eight months.
• Folding camping trailer sales fell 10.7% through August.
• Park model RV sales edged up 0.2% through August.
Thor Industries Inc. was the towable sales leader for the eight months with a 45.4% share of the market, ahead of Forest River Inc. owning a 37.2% share and Grand Design RV Co. (7.1%).
By segment, Thor was No. 1 in travel trailers through August with a 45.3% market share, followed by Forest River (39.3%) and Grand Design (5.1%). Thor led fifth-wheel sales with a 50.8% market share, followed by Forest River (26.5%) and Grand Design (15.5%).
In folding camping trailers, Forest River led the category for the first eight months with a 73.5% market share while Columbia Northwest/Aliner Inc. garnered a 10.8% share and Thor captured a 5.6% share.
Skyline Champion led the park model segment through August with a 32.2% market share, followed by Kropf Industries Inc. (20.7%) and Cavco Industries Inc. (12.7%).
