Year-over-year towable retail registrations grew 9.4% for the first two months of 2018, driven by gains in the travel trailer and fifth-wheel segments.
According to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI), results by category showed:
- Sales for the travel trailer segment climbed 9.2% for the two months.
- Fifth-wheel registrations rose 11.1 % through February.
- Folding camping trailer sales fell 11.6% for the two months.
- Park model RV sales were up 33.8% through February.
Thor Industries Inc. was the towable sales leader for the two months with 46% share of the market, ahead of Forest River Inc. owning a 34.8% share and Grand Design RV Co. (5.9%).
By segment, Thor was No. 1 in travel trailers through February with a 45.1% market share, followed by Forest River (36.7%). Thor led fifth-wheel sales with a 52.3% market share, followed by Forest River (27.2%) and Grand Design (13%).
In folding camping trailers, Forest River led the category for the first two months with a 71.4% market share while Columbia Northwest/Aliner Inc. garnered 12.3% and Thor with an 8.9% share. Cavco Industries Inc. led the park model segment with a 30% market share, followed by Champion Home Builders (19.8%) and Kropf Industries Inc. (13.6%).
