The travel trailer and fifth-wheel segments continued to show gains during May, as retail registrations grew 7.1% for the first five months of 2018.
According to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI), results by category showed:
- Travel trailer sales climbed 7% for the five months.
- Fifth-wheel registrations rose 9.7% through May.
- Folding camping trailer sales dropped 12.8% for the five months.
- Park model RV sales edged up 5.1% through May.
Thor Industries Inc. was the towable sales leader for the five months with 47.3% share of the market, ahead of Forest River Inc. owning a 35.8% share and Grand Design RV Co. (5.7%).
By segment, Thor was No. 1 in travel trailers through May with a 47.2% market share, followed by Forest River (37.5%). Thor led fifth-wheel sales with a 52.5% market share, followed by Forest River (27.3%) and Grand Design (13.7%).
In folding camping trailers, Forest River led the category for the first five months with a 70% market share while Columbia Northwest/Aliner Inc. garnered a 12.6% share and Thor held a 10.3% share. Cavco Industries Inc. led the park model segment with a 23% market share, followed by Champion Home Builders (18.5%) and Kropf Industries Inc. (16.1%).
