Year-over-year towable retail registrations were down 6.3% for the first four months of 2019. According to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI), results by category showed:
• Sales for the travel trailer segment dipped 5.5% for the four months.
• Fifth-wheel registrations declined 8.5% through April.
• Folding camping trailer sales fell 11.3% for the four months.
• Park model RV sales slid 1.4% through April.
Thor Industries Inc. was the towable sales leader for the four months with a 45.4% share of the market, ahead of Forest River Inc. owning a 36.8% share and Grand Design RV Co. (7%).
By segment, Thor was No. 1 in travel trailers through April with a 44.9% market share, followed by Forest River (39.4%). Thor led fifth-wheel sales with a 51.6% market share, followed by Forest River (26%) and Grand Design (15.3%).
In folding camping trailers, Forest River led the category for the first four months with a 67.5% market share while Columbia Northwest/Aliner Inc. garnered 12.5% and Thor captured a 6.9% share. Skyline Champion led the park model segment with a 33.4% market share, followed by Kropf Industries Inc. (17.3 %) and Cavco Industries Inc.(15.5%).
