Year-over-year towable retail registrations edged up 1.8% in July while posting an 11.4% gain for the first seven months. Travel trailers were the only segment to post an increase in sales during the month.
According to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI), results by category showed:
- Sales for the travel trailer segment increased 4.8% for the month and 14.5% year-to-date.
- Fifth-wheel registrations declined 4.9% in July, while seeing a 4.2% gain for the first seven months.
- Folding camping trailer sales dropped 16.6% for the month and 7% year-to-date.
- Park model RV sales fell 12.2% in July but were up 8.6% for the first six months.
Thor Industries Inc. was the towable sales leader through July with 48.3% share of the market, ahead of Forest River Inc. owning a 37.8% share. SSI noted that towable sales by Jayco Inc. were included in totals for Thor, which acquired the company on July 1.
By segment, Thor was No. 1 in travel trailers for the seven months with a 48% market share, followed by Forest River (39.2%). Thor led fifth-wheel sales with a 55.3% market share followed by Forest River (29.7%), and Grand Design RV Co. (8.7%).
In folding camping trailers, Forest River led the category for the seven months with a 67.1% market share, followed by Thor (15.2%) and Columbia Northwest/Aliner Inc. (11.2%). Kropf Manufacturing Co. Inc. led the park model segment with a 15.8% market share, followed by Fleetwood Homes Inc.(12.9%) and Champion Home Builders (10.9%).
