Travel trailer and fifth-wheel sales continued to drive towable sales in the first seven months of 2018, as overall retail registrations grew 6.9%.
According to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI), results by category showed:
- Travel trailer sales climbed 7% for the seven months.
- Fifth-wheel registrations rose 8.8% through July.
- Folding camping trailer sales dropped 10.6% for the seven months.
- Park model RV sales rose 7.7% through July.
Thor Industries Inc. was the towable sales leader for the seven months with a 47.6% share of the market, ahead of Forest River Inc. owning a 35% share and Grand Design RV Co. (5.6%).
By segment, Thor was No. 1 in travel trailers through July with a 47.8% market share, followed by Forest River (36.4%). Thor led fifth-wheel sales with a 52.1% market share, followed by Forest River (26.7%) and Grand Design (13.3%).
In folding camping trailers, Forest River led the category for the first seven months with a 71.9% market share while Columbia Northwest/Aliner Inc. garnered an 11.7% share and Thor held a 10.1% share. Skyline Champion led the park model segment with a 30% market share, followed by Cavco Industries Inc. (20.2%) and Kropf Industries Inc. (17.6%).
