Travel trailer and fifth-wheel sales continued to head higher during the first half of 2018, as retail registrations grew 7.8% with all sectors posting gains except folding campers.
According to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI), results by category showed:
- Travel trailer sales climbed 7.8% for the six months.
- Fifth-wheel registrations rose 9.7% through June.
- Folding camping trailer sales dropped 10.7% for the six months.
- Park model RV sales rose 10.7% through June.
Thor Industries Inc. was the towable sales leader for the six months with 47.9% share of the market, ahead of Forest River Inc. owning a 35.6% share and Grand Design RV Co. (5.6%).
By segment, Thor was No. 1 in travel trailers through June with a 47.9% market share, followed by Forest River (37.1%). Thor led fifth-wheel sales with a 52.8% market share, followed by Forest River (27.3%) and Grand Design (13.5%).
In folding camping trailers, Forest River led the category for the first six months with a 71.4% market share while Columbia Northwest/Aliner Inc. garnered a 12.1% share and Thor held a 10.1% share. Skyline Champion led the park model segment with a 29.2% market share, followed by Cavco Industries Inc. (20.8%) and Kropf Industries Inc. (17.4%).
