Towable retail registrations grew 8.7% for the first three months of 2018 as the travel trailer and fifth-wheel segments continued to show year-over-year gains.
According to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI), results by category showed:
- Sales for the travel trailer segment climbed 8.8% for the three months.
- Fifth-wheel registrations rose 11 % through March.
- Folding camping trailer sales fell 15.4% for the three months.
- Park model RV sales edged up 4.3% through March.
Thor Industries Inc. was the towable sales leader for the three months with 46.5% share of the market, ahead of Forest River Inc. owning a 35.3% share and Grand Design RV Co. (6.1%).
By segment, Thor was No. 1 in travel trailers through March with a 46% market share, followed by Forest River (37.2%). Thor led fifth-wheel sales with a 52.3% market share, followed by Forest River (27.1%) and Grand Design (13.9%).
In folding camping trailers, Forest River led the category for the first three months with a 69.7% market share while Columbia Northwest/Aliner Inc. garnered 13.6% and Thor held a 9% share. Cavco Industries Inc. led the park model segment with a 27% market share, followed by Champion Home Builders (22.1%) and Kropf Industries Inc. (12.9%).
