Year-over-year towable retail registrations grew 8.6% in January, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI).
Results by category showed:
- Sales for the travel trailer segment climbed 8.3% for the month.
- Fifth-wheel registrations rose 9.6% in January.
- Folding camping trailer sales fell 8.1% for the month.
- Park model RV sales were up 47.2% in January on relatively low volume.
Thor Industries Inc. was the towable sales leader in January with 46.5% share of the market, ahead of Forest River Inc. owning a 32.8% share and Grand Design RV Co. (5.6%).
By segment, Thor was No. 1 in travel trailers in January with a 45.2% market share, followed by Forest River (34.6%). Thor led fifth-wheel sales with a 53.8% market share, ahead of Forest River (26.4%) and Grand Design RV Co. (12.3%).
In folding camping trailers, Forest River led the category in January with a 67.2% market share while Columbia Northwest/Aliner Inc. and Thor each garnered a 12.6% share. Cavco Industries Inc. led the park model segment with a 34% market share, followed by Champion Home Builders (20.8%) and Kropf Industries Inc. (10.7%).
