Year-over-year towable RV retail registrations grew 16.6% in April and 16.8% for the first four months of 2015, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI).
Results by category showed:
- Sales for the travel-trailer segment jumped 21% for the month and 19.9% year-to-date.
- Fifth-wheel registrations were up a more modest 6.8% for April and 11.2% for the first four months.
- Folding camping trailer sales were down 5.3% for the month and down 4.5% year-to-date.
- Park model RV sales were up 11.8% for April and 10.9% for the first third of the year.
Forest River Inc. was the towable sales leader through the first four months of the year with a 37.8% share of the market, ahead of Thor Industries Inc. which had market share of 35.2% and Jayco Inc. with 13.2%.
By segment, Forest River was No. 1 in travel trailers for the first four months with 39.3% market share, followed by Thor (33.1%) and Jayco (14.4%). Thor had the biggest market share in the fifth-wheel market (46.1%) followed by Forest River (31.3%), Jayco (9.4%) and Grand Design RV Co. (8.2%).
In folding camping trailers, Forest River led for the first four months with 61.7% market share, followed by Jayco (17%) and Columbia Northwest/Aliner Inc. (10%). Skyline Corp. led the park-model segment with 13.7% market share for the first four months of 2015, followed by Kropf Manufacturing Co. Inc. (11.2%), Cavco Industries Inc. (8.3%) and Fleetwood Homes Inc. (8.1%).
