Travel trailer sales related to hurricane relief efforts, particularly in states along the Gulf Coast and in surrounding areas, factored into a 4% increase in January retail registrations.
According to data from Grand Rapids, Mich.-based marketing firm Statistical Surveys Inc., 13,444 towable units were sold during January compared to 12,921 in 2005. Travel trailer sales during the month rose 6.9% to 7,648 units from 7,157 a year ago.
Statistical Surveys noted that data was incomplete for the states of Washington, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
Other highlights include:
• January fifth-wheel retail sales improved 1.6% to 4,644 units from 4,572 in 2005.
• Folding camping trailer sales during the month declined 4.4% to 806 units from 843 the previous year.
• Sales of recreational park trailers in January were flat, down 0.9% to 346 units compared with 349 last year.
