Retail RV sales of towable RVs in November totaled 7,403 units, a scant 4.9% decline from November 2008, Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI) reported today (Jan. 14).
The encouraging news comes on the heels of the November motorized retail sales figure, which showed sales that month trailed the November 2008 motorized sales figure by just 6.7%.
The major segments of the towable category showed single-digit declines from a year earlier, led by travel trailers which totaled 4,678 in November, just 1.5% behind the 4,751 sold in November 2008.
Fifth-wheel sales in November totaled 2,217, down 7.2% from the 2,388 sold in November 2008.
Meanwhile, folding camping trailer sales totaled 375, a 12.6% decline from the 429 sold in November 2008.
Recreational park trailer sales totaled 133, down 39.5% from the 220 sold in November 2008.
Year-to-date, towable RV sales totaled 143,331, down 27.4% from the 197,310 sold through the first 11 months of 2008.
Georgia, Minnesota and New Mexico were experiencing delays in reporting data, SSI noted. With Georgia and New Mexico estimated totals factored in, the November sales figures were 7,591, just 2.5% behind the November 2008 sales. Travel trailer sales with these two states factored in were estimated at 4,796, which would put the month ahead of the November 2008 performance by almost 1%.
