The Class A and Class C sectors showed continued weakness in September, as overall motorized sales declined for the 19th straight month in year-over-year comparisons.
According to data from Grand Rapids, Mich., independent marketing firm Statistical Surveys Inc., motorhome retail registrations dropped 11.5% to 4,243 units from 4,795 a year ago and were down 11.7% in the third quarter. For the first nine months, motorized sales retreated 12.2% with 40,530 units sold compared with 46,168 in 2005.
The Class A sector recorded another double-digit decline, as September sales fell 11.6% to 2,719 units versus 3,076 last year while year-to-date the sector dropped 15.9% with 24,982 units sold compared with 29,689. For the quarter, Class A sales showed a 14.3% decline.
August Class C sales decreased 11.3% to 1,524 units from 1,719 in 2005 while registrations for the first nine months dipped 5.6% with 15,548 units sold compared to 16,479. Third-quarter Class C retail registrations were 7% behind last year’s pace.
