September motorized sales fell 55.4% in year-over-year comparisons, marking the fourth straight month of declines over 50% for the sector.
According to Statistical Surveys Inc., Grand Rapids, Mich., registration information from Florida, California and Iowa were delayed and not included in the monthly report. Florida and California represent two of the larger market share regions, which may have resulted in overstated declines.
Overall September motorhome sales dropped to 1,842 units compared with 4,130 a year ago while year-to-date registrations retreated 38.8% to 23,897 units from 39,068.
Class A sales were down 56.7% in September with 1,140 units sold versus 2,631 the previous year. For the nine months, the Class A segment decreased 41.9% to 13,815 units from 23,792 in 2007.
The Class C market also suffered significant declines for the month, dropping 53.2% to 702 units sold from 1,499 the year prior. Year-to-date, Class C registrations were down 34% to 10,082 units compared with 15,276 a year ago.
