Retail registrations of Class A and Class C motorhomes totaled 1,485 in September, down 24% from the 1,954 sold in September 2008, Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI) reported Thursday (Nov. 12).
Class A sales totaled 907 units, down 26.9% from the 1,240 sold in September 2008. Class C sales totaled 578, down 19% from the 714 sold in September 2008, according to Grand Rapids, Mich.-based SSI.
Winnebago Industries remained the top motorhome seller with 312 units sold in September, or a 21% market share, followed by Thor Industries Inc. and Fleetwood RV Inc.
In Class A sales, Winnebago was first with 168 sales or an 18.5% market share, followed by Fleetwood and Thor.
In Class C sales, Winnebago was first with 144 sales or a 24.9% market share, followed by Thor and Jayco Inc.
For year-to-date in Class A sales, Fleetwood was the clear leader with 1,618 sales to Winnebago’s 1,469.
In Class C sales year-to-date, Winnebago was the leader with 1,460 to Thor’s 1,312.
Year-to-date industrywide, Class A and C sales totaled 5,991, down 38.5% from the 9,742 sold in the first three quarters of 2008.
Class A sales totaled 3,252, down 39.3% from the 5,356 sold in the first three quarters of 2008.
Class C sales totaled 2,739 units, down 37.6% from the 4,386 sold in the first three quarters of 2008.
The states of California and Minnesota are experiencing delays in processing, so the report is incomplete, SSI noted. In addition, the state of Georgia “has been cut off due to state issues. We will place the data into the correct months as we receive it.”
