Sterling Truck Corp., a subsidiary of Freightliner LLC, recently introduced the Acterra SportChassis CE, a medium-duty tow vehicle for pulling fifth-wheel travel trailers, horse, boat, race car or custom trailers.
The SportChassis CE has a towing capacity of up to 28,000 pounds and can handle trailers as long as 53 feet.
It is available through Sterling’s network of Acterra dealers in the U.S. and Canada.
Standard equipment includes a 300-horsepower Caterpillar CFE 3126 diesel engine. Higher horsepower Mercedes-Benz and Cummins engines are available as options.
An air-operated optional fifth-wheel hitch provides towing capacity up to 28,000 pounds, more than 10,000 pounds greater than most pickups, according to Sterling.
An optional fixed fifth-wheel hitch provides towing capacity up to 20,000 pounds.
The SportChassis CE has a 195-inch wheelbase and a gross combination weight rating (gcwr) of 40,000 pounds.
“The Acterra SportChassis CE is a stylish and tough vehicle with just about all the amenities that an RV owner or other recreational operator could ever want,” said John Merrifield, senior vice president of sales and marketing for the Willoughby, Ohio-based Sterling.
