Stiers RV Centers LLC, Bakersfield, Calif., has opened a 20-bay service center housing a warranty and parts shop on four acres across the street from its primary location in the Bakersfield Auto Mall.
In addition, the dealership opened an adjacent satellite sales location on two acres for truck campers, folding camping trailers and towable sport utility recreational vehicles (SURVs).
“We felt it was a good mix to blend them together across the street,” said Peter Kinden, president of the FreedomRoads affiliate.
The retailer’s main sales facility shares the Bakersfield Auto Mall on Calif. 99 with eight automobile dealerships and several auto parts and accessory stores.
Fourteen bays at the original Stiers facility have been retained for delivery prep. “It’s been fabulous in terms of productivity,” Kinden said.
Stiers hired an additional 25 people to staff the new service center and sales lot, bringing the company’s total work force in Bakersfield to about 90 employees.
“We’ve doubled our size in the last five years,” Kinden said. “Consequently, we’ve got a lot of customers to take care of.” Stiers had sales of approximately $100 million in 2004.
