The effort to obtain a consensus about the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association’s (RVIA) role within the industry is the focus of the strategic planning initiative that continued during the RVIA’s annual meeting earlier this month.
“Now, more than ever, we need to determine what we want our association to be doing for us,” said Walt Bennett, the RVIA chairman and senior vice president and secretary of Thor Industries Inc., Jackson Center, Ohio.
A five-question survey was distributed during the annual meeting and two of the questions asked attendees whether they strongly agree, agree, disagree or strongly disagree with a statement.
One of the statements reads as follows, “By the year 2004, RVIA and its members will be known for: Providing leadership to all segments of the industry; Creating positive experiences for all RV consumers; Engaging RV owners to achieve common ends.”
The other statement reads as follows, “RVIA’s mission is to promote and protect the RV industry and its members by: Creating a favorable business environment; Improving RV products and experiences; Providing industry information and knowledge; Growing the RV market.”
Attendees also were asked to rank four RVIA goals in order of importance. The goals listed were: Creating a favorable business environment; Improving RV products and experiences; Providing industry information and knowledge; Growing the RV market.
The other questions asked attendees to volunteer their own ideas about the RVIA’s role and to list the membership category to which they belong.
The RVIA Strategic Planning Committee will meet in Chicago May 8 to go over the survey results and a presentation will be made during RVIA Committee Week June 11-14 in Tyson’s Corner, Va.
