The program, founded in 2009 by Charlie Curry, provides complimentary RV and tent sites to active military (including National Guard, Reserves, and Coast Guard) and their families nationwide. According to a press release, Tents for Troops has grown to include over 300 family-friendly parks across 47 states and Canada.
“We’re in the early stages of developing a program that will offer the complimentary use of a travel trailer or other camping unit if the military member does not already have one at their disposal,” said Curry. “These units will be set up in T4T-affiliated parks where they will be fully equipped with all cookware, dishes, small appliances, utensils, board games and even a flat-screen TV and DVD player for those times when the weather is not cooperating. The troops will need only to supply their own towels and bedding. In keeping with T4T philosophy, these camping units will be loaned out to our troops and their families at no charge.”
He added, “We are asking RV dealers of all sizes and in all locations to help us make this program possible by donating a new or used unit. If, perhaps, you have a unit that is not necessarily fit for the troops, we’d love to have it as a donation that we can liquidate to help fund the program.
Curry said cash donations of any amount are “also greatly appreciated.” Tents for Troops is exhibiting in Booth No. 609 at the Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA) convention.
