As had been expected since November, Thor Industries Inc. became the retail market share leader in travel trailers and fifth-wheels during 2001, according to Statistical Surveys Inc., an independent market research firm.

Thor became the leader in larger towables as a result of its acquisition of Keystone RV Co., which was completed in November.
Prior to the acquisition of Keystone, Thor’s retail market share in travel trailers and fifth-wheels about equaled Keystone’s. When the Thor and Keystone totals were combined for the full year, Thor passed Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. to become No. 1 in larger towables, Statistical Surveys reports.
In travel trailers, Thor had a 24.5% retail market share last year, followed by: Fleetwood, 17%; Forest River, 12.7%; Jayco, 6.6%; Coachmen, 5.8%; Skyline, 5.6%; R-Vision, 5.2%; K-Z, 3.1%; Gulf Stream, 2.1%; and SunnyBrook, 2.1%.
In fifth-wheels, Thor led with a 28.7% retail market share, followed by Forest River, 14%; Fleetwood, 11.2%; Jayco, 8.5%; Monaco, 4.2%; Coachmen, 3.7%; K-Z, 3%; Skyline, 2.8%; Gulf Stream, 2.4% and Carriage, 2.2%.
Meanwhile, in folding campers, Fleetwood continued its domination last year with a 41.7% market share, followed by Jayco, 13%; Forest River, 11.6%; Coachmen, 9.7%; and Starcraft RV Inc., 9.5%. (Starcraft RV is a Jayco affiliate and, together, they accounted for 22.5% of the folding camper retail market.)
In park models, Damon was the leader last year with a 21.3% market share, followed by Skyline, 20%, Chariot Eagle Inc., 13%, Fleetwood, 8.2% and Forest River, 5.7%.
