Three brands built by subsidiaries of Thor Industries Inc. were the retail sales leaders in the fifth-wheel market in 2002, according to independent market research firm Statistical Surveys Inc.
Montana, built by Thor’s Keystone RV Co. subsidiary, was the No. 1 fifth-wheel brand in terms of retail sales last year and Keystone’s Cougar brand was No. 2, Statistical Surveys reports.
Montana had a 7% market share and Cougar had 5.7%.
Meanwhile, the Dutchmen Classic brand, built by Thor’s Dutchmen Manufacturing Co. subsidiary, was No. 3 in fifth-wheels last year. Its retail market share was 3.3%
No. 4 in the fifth-wheel market last year was Jayco Inc.’s Eagle brand, also at 3.3%, and No. 5 was Forest River Inc.’s Wildcat brand, at 3.2%.
When the output from all of Thor’s subsidiaries is combined, the company is the leader in terms of fifth-wheel sales by a wide margin, accounting for 33.4% of all fifth-wheel retail sales last year, according to Statistical Surveys.
Forest River, which is based in Goshen, Ind., along with Keystone and Dutchmen, was No. 2 in fifth-wheel sales last year with a 17% retail market share.
No. 3 in the fifth-wheel market last year was Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. with a 7.4% retail market share, followed by Jayco at 6.6% and Monaco Coach Corp. at 3.8%.
