Thor Industries Inc. reported preliminary revenues of $727 million for its 2005 fiscal third quarter and a 21% gain to $1.9 billion in sales for the first nine months, ended April 30.
For the quarter, the Jackson Center, Ohio-based builder posted a 13% increase over sales of $646 million in the previous year, driven by an 11% gain to $661 million in the recreational vehicle sector. RV sales for the nine months increased 23% to $1.7 billion from $1.4 billion last year.
Through the first four months of 2005, RV retail sales were a record 24,867 units compared with 24,015 units last year.
Total backlog on April 30 was $455 million compared to $600 million last year, including an RV backlog of $315 million versus $479 million.
