The Eldorado National transit bus subsidiary of Thor Industries Inc., a major RV manufacturer, will build fuel cell-powered buses.
Fuel cells create electric power from the combination of hydrogen and oxygen and potentially are a non-polluting alternative to gasoline or diesel fuel engine-powered vehicles.
Thor and several suppliers plan to use fuel cells to power 30-foot low-floor buses assembled by Eldorado.
ISE Research Corp. of San Diego will develop the hybrid-electric drive train for the buses. The fuel cell power plant is being developed by International Fuel Cells, a division of United Technologies.
Quantum Technologies Inc. of Irvine, Calif., will supply the hydrogen storage tank subsystem.
