Membership-based campground operator Thousand Trails Inc. reported its sales increased 18% and its earnings were up 14% during the three months ended Sept. 30, the first quarter of its fiscal year 2001.

The Dallas-based company earned $1.5 million on total revenue of $23.3 million during the July-through-September period.

The American Stock Exchange-listed company’s revenue was up due to the acquisition of Leisure Time Resorts during December 1999, higher average prices on new membership sales and an upgrade program.

Thousand Trails currently has 119,900 members and operates 63 camping preserves in 17 states and British Columbia. It also manages 169 public campgrounds for the U.S. Forest Service and provides a reciprocal use program for members of around 300 camping facilities.
