Mastervolt and Thor Motor Coach (TMC) announced a new custom system for onboard power technology. According to a press release, Mastervolt parent Power Products System Integrators (PPSI) collaborated with Thor engineers to develop a new system designed to provide grid-quality power without the need for a generator or AC source.

The Mastervolt MLI Ultra Li-Ion batteries provide a total of 11,000 watts while the integrated battery management system (BMS) monitors the individual battery cells to optimize performance. They can be directly integrated into NMEA 2000 or RV-C networks, so key battery data can be viewed on displays that are on the same network. An embedded data recorder tracks and records charge and discharge cycles over the life of the battery.

“The new MLI Ultra batteries from Mastervolt truly represent an evolution and new level of performance in Li-Ion technology,” stated Reese Bischoff, national sales manager for Power Products. “We felt that Thor was an ideal launch partner for this technology in the Class B category because of the sophisticated electronics and loads that are built into Thor Motor Coaches.”

Supporting the Li-Ion batteries is an integrated power conversion system that is designed to provide power over long periods – even in off-grid applications. The Mastervolt CombiMaster inverter/charger provides a pure sine AC power source to operate all sensitive electronics on the coach. At the same time, it quickly and efficiently charges the Li-Ion batteries when plugged into an AC source.

When a dedicated AC source is not available, batteries are charged via a 280A alternator and Alpha Pro III regulator. Key data of the entire system is readily viewable on the EasyView display screen. All of the components communicate on the same network, so they are constantly sharing data and optimizing the system for performance and safety. The Mastervolt system comew with a five-year warranty.

“We pride ourselves in being industry leaders when it comes to introducing cutting edge technologies,” VP of Product Development and Marketing Jon Krider at Thor Motor Coach. “We are excited to be partnering with Mastervolt, as their technology aligns with our high standards.”
