Tom Raper, the large RV and manufactured home dealership in Richmond, Ind., will open the only factory outlet center for Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. manufactured homes in Garrett, Ind., according to the News-Sentinel of Fort Wayne, Ind.
Fleetwood has two housing plants in Garrett and Tom Raper Homes will occupy unused office space in one of the plants. Fleetwood will build a portion of the outlet center and then lease the building to the dealership.
The retail operation will open around March 1 and the Tom Raper dealership will inventory about 15 manufactured homes at a time. Plant tours will be available at at least one of the adjacent housing plants.
Fleetwood has no plans for additional housing outlet centers, according to the News-Sentinel. The Riverside, Calif.-based company felt the situation in Garrett was unique because its property is along a major highway and it is less than a mile from an interstate highway.
The Tom Raper dealership now is owned by Dave Bane, who was the general manager until he purchased the company from its founder earlier this year.
The dealership’s primary location is near Dayton, Ohio, and it wants to extend its distribution reach into Northeastern Indiana.
