As price-competitive products have taken the lead recently in many RV product categories, motorhomes like Forest River Inc.’s affordable, 25- to 30-foot FR3 Class A have become serious contenders — thanks in particular to its functionality, simple good looks and appeal to a wide spectrum of price-sensitive buyers. “For example, the FR3 has a power bunk in the front that drops down over the cockpit,” FR3 Product Manager Michael Hums pointed out. “In Class C’s, of course, they’re sleeping over the cab, which is the same concept. So, you take a Class C and load it up with paint, jacks and everything else and you’re in that same price point with the Class A.” The newest FR3, the 28DS, offers all this plus a rear-wall slideout in the bedroom that’s home to a king-sized bed. “We wanted to give customers a motorhome under 30 feet that has a walk-around bed,” Hums noted. “We’re the only ones in the Class A business right now that have a king-size bed in a slideout.” Riding on an 18,000-pound GVWR Ford chassis, the 29-foot, 10-inch 28DS also is equipped with a 16-foot patio awning and 4.0-Kw Onan genset.
