Shasta RV turned an eye to “retro” with the reintroduction of its iconic 1961 Airflyte in 16- and 19-foot lengths — a unit that preserves all of the looks of the original with a few updates to meet current RV standards and provide modern conveniences, like replacing the oven with a microwave and turning the original port-a-potty closet into a wet bath closet with showerhead and pan. The three color choices (all with polo white on top) — matador red, seafoam green and buttercup yellow — are “as close to original as we could make it,” said Mark Lucas, president of Shasta RV, a division of Forest River Inc. The longer model has an L-style gaucho in the back with a canvas hammock above it. MSRPs are $17,200 for the 16-foot model — though retail pricing is closer to $14,995 plus freight, Lucas said — and about $1,000 more for the 19-foot model. The only options are length and color. Only 1,941 units were built to celebrate the founding year of Shasta RV.
