Retail sales of travel trailers, fifth-wheels, folding campers and park models all declined during August, according to Statistical Surveys Inc., an independent market research firm.
Travel trailer sales declined 5.6% in August to 10,547 units and travel trailer sales were down 6.5% after the first eight months of this year to 76,326 units.
Fifth-wheel retail sales declined 6.3% in August to 4,932 units and fifth-wheel sales were down 6.1% after the first eight months of this year to 37,959 units.
Meanwhile, folding camper sales plunged 22.2% in August to 4,401 units and folding camper sales were down 16.5% after the first eight months of this year to 31,998 units.
Folding camper sales have been in recent years by sales of a substitute product, the so-called expandable or hybrid, which is counted in the travel trailer category.
Park model sales also declined 9% in August to 524 units. After the first eight months of this year, park model sales were down 15.8% to 3,579 units, Statistical Surveys reports.
