Retail sales of new travel trailers, fifth-wheels, folding campers and park models declined 9.8% during April to 20,539 units, according to Statistical Surveys Inc., an independent market research firm.

In comparison, 22,763 new travel trailers, fifth-wheels, folding campers and park models were sold to retail buyers during April 2000.

After the first four months of this year, combined retail sales of the four product categories were down 11.2% to 56,399 units, Statistical Surveys reports.

Here is how the four product categories performed individually:

Travel trailer sales declined 7.6% in April to 10,398 units and were down 10.5% during the first four months of this year to 28,353 units.

Fifth-wheels sales declined 5.2% in April to 5,227 units and were down 8.3% during the first four months of this year to 15,582 units.

Folding camper sales plunged 18% in April to 4,484 units and were down 15.3% units during the first four months of this year to 11,065 units.

Park model sales fell 19.8% in April to 430 units and were down 22.5% during the first four months of this year to 1,399 units.
