Retail sales of travel trailers, fifth-wheels, folding campers and park models declined 10% in June, when compared with June 2000, according to Statistical Surveys Inc., and independent market research firm.
During the second quarter, combined retail sales of the four product categories declined 8.9% and they were down 9.4% when the first half of this year is compared with the first half of 2000, Statistical Surveys reports.
During June, a total of 26,482 travel trailers, fifth-wheels, folding campers and park models were sold to retail buyers. There were 69,883 units sold during the second quarter and 106,442 units retailed during the first half of this year.
Here is how the product categories performed individually:
Travel trailer retail sales declined 6.3% in June to 13,592 units. Travel trailer sales were down 5.4% in the second quarter to 35,799 units and were down 7.2% during the first half of this year to 54,075 units.
Fifth-wheel sales declined 7.3% in June to 6,245 units. Fifth-wheel sales were down 5.5% in the second quarter to 17,155 units and were down 6.5% during the first half of this year to 27,698 units.
Folding camper sales fell 18.1% during June to 6,074 units. Folding camper sales also were down 18% in the second quarter to 15,430 units and were down 16.1% during the first half of this year to 22,155 units.
Park model sales plunged 24.1% during June to 571 units and were down 19.1% during the second quarter to 1,499 units. During the first half of this year, park model sales were down 19.4% to 2,514 units.
