Reflecting a disparity in year-over-year comparisons due to hurricane-related shipments during last year’s fourth quarter, October wholesale deliveries fell 13.1%, pulled down by a 30.4% drop in the travel trailer sector.
According to the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA), overall shipments declined to 27,900 units in October compared to 32,100 a year ago. For the first 10 months, wholesale deliveries gained 5.9% from the previous year with 344,000 units shipped versus 324,800.
October travel trailer deliveries plummeted from 19,100 units in 2005 to 13,300, but remained 12.2% ahead of last year’s pace for the first 10 months with 180,700 units delivered compared with 161,000.
Conversely, October fifth-wheel shipments were up 26.4% while Class A motorhomes were flat, marking the first month in nearly two years the sector did not show a decline.
October Class A deliveries totaled 2,700 units while year-to-date shipments declined 16.2% to 27,400 units from 32,700 a year ago.
Other highlights from the report include:
• Overall October towable shipments were down 15.5% to 23,500 units while the motorized sector gained 2.3% to 4,400 units. For the first 10 months, towable deliveries were up 9.1% with 296,200 units shipped versus 271,400 last year and overall motorized shipments fell 10.5% to 47,800 units from 53,400.
• For the month, Class C shipments were flat at 1,400 units and year-to-date the sector contracted 2.7% with 18,000 units delivered.
• October fifth-wheel shipments totaled 6,700 units versus 5,300 in 2005. For the first 10 months, the sector was up 5.7% to 78,100 units compared with 73,900 the previous year.
• October folding camping trailer shipments gained 200 units to 2,900 while the market was up 4.8% year-to-date with 30,300 units shipped.
• For the month, truck camper shipments were down 100 units to 600 and fell 6.6% for the first 10 months to 7,100 units.
• Class B October shipments gained 100 units to 300 and rose 200 units year-to-date to 2,400.
• The conversion market declined 35.7% for the month with 1,800 units shipped and was down 25.2% to 22,800 units year-to-date.
