Traveland USA, which bills itself as the “worlds largest motorhome and RV shopping center,” has outgrown its 36-acre site in Irvine, Calif., according to the Orange County Business Journal.
The lease for the 33-year-old retail center, which currently rents out space to 14 area dealers, will expire in the fall of 2006 and ownership is looking for a larger site that would accommodate a 250-acre “RV resort.”
General Manager David Farwell reported that in addition to selling RVs, plans call for a service center along with a large camping area that would offer barbecues, fire pits, outdoor entertainment spots and hot tubs.
“It would be quite glamorous compared to what we have to work with now,” Farwell said. Traveland’s current facility has a family restaurant and three ponds on-site.
Real estate brokers for Traveland, owned by the Pope family of San Diego, have found three potential sites in Orange County for the new dealership, but Farwell declined to disclose the locations.
Because of the big amount of sales tax Traveland generates, cities are courting the dealership. Traveland reportedly has received interest from other cities but wants to stay in Irvine, according to Farwell.
“We have a good relationship with the city of Irvine,” he said.
Traveland is mulling extending its lease one more year while it explores possible spots. The dealership’s landlord, The Irvine Company, has already extended Traveland’s lease by three years, but didn’t comment on another extension.
