Triangle RV Centre in Sidney, British Columbia, Canada, celebrated 50 years in business during the company’s spring RV show in March.
The dealership, run by Sylvia Thistle-Miller since 1993, commemorated the founding of the business by her retired husband, Roy Miller. As part of the anniversary celebration, employees donned ’50s era clothing while also displaying a vintage car and 1956 Cardinal travel during the March promotion.
Roy Miller said he discovered the RV “after being rained out on a tent camping holiday in 1955” in Washington state. The following March, he began to sell 13- and 15-foot travel trailers made by Leisure Homes of Utah at a gasoline station he owned in Victoria, the capital of British Columbia and the largest city on Vancouver Island.
He moved several times and continued to sell RVs at businesses he operated before relocating in 1978 to his present site to Sidney, a northeast suburb of Victoria. At one time, Miller owned eight RV and mobile home sales lots in western Canada.
Billed as “Victoria’s original and largest RV centre,” Triangle RV today offers a full line of new and used towable and motorized products under the Winnebago, Itasca, Crossroads, Outback, [email protected], Coachmen and Leisure Travel Vans brand names in addition to cargo trailers and flatbed trailers.
Located a short ferry ride north of Seattle, Triangle RV has 16 employees, including five service technicians who operate in four service bays. “It’s the only state-of-the-art facility of its kind on the island,” said Thistle-Miller.
Each bay is equipped to do a full range of RV services, including fiberglass, electrical and plumbing repairs. The service center also provides sanitation and water fills and propane service.
Thistle-Miller, who has worked at Triangle RV since 1982 and served on the board and as vice president of the Canadian Recreation Vehicles Dealers Association, said business in this golden anniversary year has been excellent with particularly strong sales of fifth-wheel trailers and small Class A motorhomes. The 29-foot double slideout Sunova Class A by Itasca has been the season’s best-selling product, she said.
