Rep. Barbara Comstock, R-Va., indicated during a visit to Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) headquarters in Reston that she intends to join the RV Caucus.
During her tour, she met with RVIA staff and conducted a Q&A, toured an RV and met the government affairs and leadership teams to discuss the impact of the RV industry on the U.S. economy.
Comstock is involved in several caucuses, tasks forces and committees; among them, the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. She is also chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Research and Technology.
When asked what legislation could potentially get through the existing Congress, Rep. Comstock highlighted several transportation initiatives, including the potential of enacting an infrastructure bill this year. The congresswoman was very interested in following up on the idea of including a recreation title in the infrastructure bill. Her experience on the Research and Technology Subcommittee translates to an understanding of the need to modernize broadband infrastructure at national parks.
She also emphasized that while there is a desire to “hit a home run” on items like healthcare reform, it is more likely that a series of smaller reforms and repeals will take place to accomplish this goal and other legislative changes over time.
