Recognizing his successful, 40-year career in the RV aftermarket and service to the industry, the RV Industry Association (RVIA) presented George Grengs of Valterra, with the Jim Barker Lifetime Achievement award.
The award is presented annually at the RVIA Aftermarket Executive Conference and recognizes individuals who have significantly contributed to the success of the RV aftermarket industry, according to a press release.
In accepting the Jim Barker Lifetime Achievement award, Grengs expressed surprise and recalled his first conference in 1985 when he was welcomed to the event by Paul Tweedy, a distributor and one of the founding members of the conference.
“I so much appreciated him taking the time to walk into a nobody’s room and introduce himself,” Grengs said.
“That friendly welcoming spirit, whether you’re a competitor or not, is engrained in the aftermarket community. It’s important for all of us to continue that spirit and reach out to welcome new people and new companies into the industry. Because with new companies, come new products which are the lifeline for us to move forward in a fast-changing world.” he said.
The Jim Barker Lifetime Achievement award was part of an awards ceremony Thursday wrapping up the four-day conference in Denver, Colo.
