Factory-to-dealer shipments of van conversions and converted pickups continued on the decline during August although the number of converted sport utility vehicles (SUVs) delivered that month doubled, according the to Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA).
Van conversion deliveries fell 26.5% in August to 3,600 units, compared with 4,900 units shipped during August 2002.
After the first eight months of this year, van conversion shipments were down 14.2% to 27,800 units, compared with 32,400 units delivered during the same portion of last year.
Meanwhile, deliveries of converted pickups declined 23.1% in August to 1,000 units, compared with 1,300 units shipped a year earlier.
After the first eight months of this year, converted pickup shipments were down 4.8% to 9,900 units, compared with 10,400 units delivered a year earlier.
In the case of converted SUVs, a total of 1,000 units were shipped in August, compared with 500 units delivered a year earlier.
During the first eight months of this year, shipments of converted SUVs increased 19.4% to 3,700 units, compared with 3,100 units delivered during the same portion of 2002.
