After a few months of modest increases in volume earlier this year, van conversion shipments from manufacturers to auto dealers fell 15.6% during July, according to the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA).
There were 3,800 van conversions shipped in July, compared with 4,500 units delivered to dealers during July 2001, according to the RVIA.
However, during the first seven months of this year, van conversion shipments were up 2.6% to 27,500 units.
Meanwhile, shipments of converted pickups increased during July, after a slow start earlier this year, but the converted sport utility vehicle (SUV) market continued to dwindle.
Converted pickup deliveries increased 14.3% in July to 1,600 units, but after the first seven months of this year, converted pickup shipments were down 16.5% to 9,100 units.
Only 200 converted SUVs were shipped during July, a 33.3% decline from the 300 units delivered a year earlier. After the first seven months of this year, converted SUV shipments were down 16.1% to 2,600 units.
