The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association’s (RVIA) Van Conversion Committee has scheduled a second strategic planning meeting for next week in Elkhart, Ind.
The meeting is scheduled for June 3, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Country Inn Suites Elkhart North, located at the I-80/90 interchange – the Indiana Toll Road – on Elkhart’s north side.
The session scheduled for next week will be a followup to the strategic planning meeting that took place April 21-22 in Atlanta, according to RVIA Today, the RVIA’s newsletter.
The meeting in Atlanta was attended by 22 van-conversion committee members and was facilitated by Chris Zikakis, founder and president of consulting firm Open Road Capital.
The wholesale and retail markets for conversion vehicles has shrunk dramatically the last several years, and the heads of conversion firms have asked the RVIA to fund a strategic planning effort for them.
During the Atlanta gathering, Zikakis proposed the following methods for expanding the conversion-vehicle market:
• Rebranding: giving a new image to the product.
• Increasing the amount of public relations activity.
• Developing an independent advertising campaign (separate from the Go RVing Coalition’s national ad campaign).
• Increasing the involvement of the RVIA in standards and standardization in product and components to better serve consumer needs and preferences.
• Working more cooperatively with auto dealers on selling and servicing the product.
