Today’s video comes from a “Fox & Friends” Sunday (June 28) segment featuring Recreational Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) President Richard Coon showing a Minnie Winnie motorhome manufactured by Winnebago Industries Inc.
The segment, coordinated by RVIA’s PR team, was one of two highlighting what’s new in the camping space, according to James Ashurst, vice president of communications and marketing for the Reston, Va.-based trade association and administrator of the Go RVing Coalition’s national marketing campaign. Products featured, in addition to the Winnebago Class C, included Forest River Inc.’s Rockwood folding camping trailer, Airstream Inc.’s Airstream Bambi travel trailer and Jayco Inc.’s Entegra Coach Class A.
Having previously “pitched” Fox News on a Go RVing-related appearance, the call from the national network – ultimately timed with National Camping Month and Great Outdoors Month — came on Tuesday. The original plan was for an appearance on Saturday – all of which, of course, prompted a “scramble” on the part of RVIA’s PR staff and consultants to pull the whole thing together.
They got a little bit more breathing room when the appearance, due to heavy rain, was bumped to Sunday. “So, the team on the ground did a great job of creating that campground feel outside Fox’s offices there on Avenue of the Americas in New York City,” said Ashurst. “It was a great segment.
“Our PR consultants and RVIA’s Kevin Broom (director of media relations) worked really hard on it. John Stringer jumped through hoops at Forest River to get us a folding camping trailer. Colonial RV (a Lakewood, N.J., dealership) provided the Airstream for us, and Jayco was great, too. There were transport drivers and folks that were there helping to set up, too. So, it was a whole team effort, and it all came together in the end. We appreciate the members so much for getting us product on such a tight turn.
“From a Go RVing standpoint, we always talk about it being an all-industry coalition, and I think Sunday was a good example of that.”
