Viking_LogoThe Viking Epic Series of camping trailers, manufactured by Coachmen RV, a division of Forest River Inc., has been named a 2014 Consumers Digest Best Buy. The distinction, which came in the “midrange” category, was announced in the May/June issue of Consumers Digest magazine.

Chris Mandell, general manager of Viking Recreational Vehicles for Coachmen RV, said company officials were “excited and elated” when they first heard the news.

“We see this as quite an honor. A lot of people put a lot of stock in the advice and recommendations from Consumers Digest,” Mandell said, adding the Best Buy recognition likely will figure prominently in future marketing efforts.

According to Consumers Digest, being a “Best Buy” means the product delivers “exceptional value for a given amount of money … based on its combination of eight criteria: performance, ease of use, features, quality of construction, warranty, efficiency, styling, and maintenance and service requirements.

According to Michael R. Terlep, president of Coachmen RV, the Consumers Digest “Best Buy” status provides validation that Viking camping trailers are an excellent value for RVers.

“To receive this recognition is an honor and provides us reassurance that we are doing several things right; specifically that our innovative and practical designs combined with our product features and overall quality result in an exceptional value proposition,” Terlep said. “Now we are challenged with raising the bar and delivering an even better product.”

The Viking Epic series is available in eight floorplans, including the 2105ST model which was singled out by Consumers Digest because “it’s the least expensive model ($13,095) we found that has a three-burner cooktop, a toilet and a shower as standard features.”

“No other line in this price range ($9,615-$13,401) delivers a better combination of creature comforts or a better warranty than does the Epic series, which is a repeat Best Buy selection,” Consumers Digest reported.

Somerset Camping Trailers was a Consumers Digest Best Buy in the premium category while the Jayco Jay Sport Line was selected in the economy range.
