According to a press release, the Winnebago Rally Grounds will serve as the host location for a traveling Vietnam Wall War Memorial display and other key activities associated with Operation LZ as well as onsite camping accommodations.
“Winnebago values the sacrifices made by active duty military personnel and veterans who have served the U.S. military and is pleased to support this event with the use of our facilities,” the release stated.
“As a Vietnam veteran, I am proud the company I work for is supporting this Welcome Home event,” said Winnebago’s longest tenured employee Larry Kearney. “I am happy this is going on and am glad the organizers are acknowledging Vietnam-era veterans.”
Kearney has worked at Winnebago for 46 years. During his time in the Army he served in Vietnam, was awarded the Bronze Star and was a Purple Heart recipient.
Operation LZ will take place at the Winnebago Rally Grounds, Forest City airport and Heritage Park of North Iowa. The event coincides with the 40-year anniversary of the end of the war and will feature a traveling display of the Vietnam War Memorial, key note speakers including Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad, numerous military related air and ground displays and activities and a veteran appreciation concert.
Organizers expect up to 20,000 people may attend the event. More information about Operation LZ can be found at operationlz.com.
